- Position Overview
- Role: Military Medical Examiner
- Location: Cardiff
- Contract: Part‑time until April 2027
- Start date: July
- Core hours: 08:00 – 17:30 Mon/Wed/Tue (1–2 additional days considered)
- Salary: £100,000 pro‑rata (£60,000 for 3 days a week) via PAYE
- Purpose
The Military Medical Examiner delivers safe and effective medical assessments for prospective Royal Marines recruits on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, determining medical suitability for training.
Responsibilities
- Review candidate's Pre‑Joining Health Questionnaire, PHCR and optician’s report to identify medical conditions.
- Conduct face‑to‑face medical assessment, including detailed history and a full head‑to‑toe physical examination.
- Assess the candidate’s overall health and functional fitness for service.
- Determine medical fitness for service in accordance with Mo D standards and guidance.
- Refer complex or borderline cases to a senior Naval medical officer for further advice and final determination where appropriate.
- Communicate outcomes to the candidate in a timely and professional manner.
- Participate in appraisal and revalidation as required by the GMC.
- Work collaboratively with clinical team members (Navy personnel, doctors, HCA’s) and site leadership.
Qualifications
- Full registration with the GMC.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Strong clinical judgement and assessment skills.
- Ability to work as a team player alongside Navy personnel, doctors, HCA’s.
