  • Role: Military Medical Examiner
  • Location: Cardiff
  • Contract: Part‑time until April 2027
  • Start date: July
  • Core hours: 08:00 – 17:30 Mon/Wed/Tue (1–2 additional days considered)
  • Salary: £100,000 pro‑rata (£60,000 for 3 days a week) via PAYE
  • Purpose

The Military Medical Examiner delivers safe and effective medical assessments for prospective Royal Marines recruits on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, determining medical suitability for training.

Responsibilities

  • Review candidate's Pre‑Joining Health Questionnaire, PHCR and optician’s report to identify medical conditions.
  • Conduct face‑to‑face medical assessment, including detailed history and a full head‑to‑toe physical examination.
  • Assess the candidate’s overall health and functional fitness for service.
  • Determine medical fitness for service in accordance with Mo D standards and guidance.
  • Refer complex or borderline cases to a senior Naval medical officer for further advice and final determination where appropriate.
  • Communicate outcomes to the candidate in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in appraisal and revalidation as required by the GMC.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical team members (Navy personnel, doctors, HCA’s) and site leadership.

Qualifications

  • Full registration with the GMC.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong clinical judgement and assessment skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player alongside Navy personnel, doctors, HCA’s.
