Service and Installation Engineer

The Service and Installation Engineer role, based in Manchester, is a full‑time, permanent field position covering the North West of England.

The role requires significant travel across the UK, installing and servicing automated gates and barriers.

Key responsibilities include diagnosing faults, performing planned maintenance, and ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards.

Candidates should possess strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding skills, with experience in automation or a related engineering field.

A full UK driving licence is essential.

Location and travel: Candidate can be based anywhere in the UK; the job involves regular travel across the UK, including overnight stays and occasional visits to other locations.

About the Role

This field‑based role covers a designated area (North West of England/South London) and reports directly to the Contracts Manager.

Responsibilities include

  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs, replacing components as required.
  • Ensure attendance on site is timely for onsite inductions.
  • Manage and deliver service, maintenance and installation projects.
  • Fault‑find, test and service company and third‑party electromechanical products.
  • Provide accurate reports relating to completed service and installation jobs in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with Service/Contracts/Maintenance teams to ensure all jobs are completed on time and to quality standards.
  • Engage with customers professionally, ensuring satisfaction of new installations and ongoing maintenance.
  • Cooperate with technical and production departments.
  • Prepare and manage van stock and ensure vehicle maintenance and road legality.
  • Complete timesheets accurately and submit to accounts before 10:00am on Monday for the previous week.
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements and best working practices.
  • Adhere to all company rules, regulations and legal requirements.
  • Accommodate overnight stays and possible travel to other UK locations.

  • Highly organised, able to plan tasks and time effectively.
  • Methodical approach to completing tasks, including fault‑finding.
  • Initiative to resolve problems.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible, able to work within a team.
  • Strong communicator, confident liaising with clients, engineers and staff internally.

Qualifications

  • Electrical certification (including, but not limited to, 17th/18th editions).
  • City and Guilds level 3 in electrical installations (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience within the gate and barrier industry.
  • Experience with access controls.
  • Willingness to work on weekends on a rota basis for contractual installations.
  • Subject to an enhanced DBS check.
  • Additional Information

We require applicants to be available to travel on short notice for installations and repairs.
