Onward seeks a Communal Spaces Specialist to join their team in Merseyside. The role offers a full‑time salary of £37,250 and is a permanent contract. It focuses on managing and improving shared residential areas, ensuring quality and safety standards, coordinating maintenance programmes, liaising with residents, and overseeing cleaning schedules. The position requires strong organisational abilities, knowledge of property management, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities include conducting inspections, resolving issues, and implementing enhancements.

The contract provides:

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance
    • Carry out communal inspections on all general‑needs buildings to ensure safety and suitability
    • Report health and safety hazards and coordinate necessary repairs
    • Work cooperatively with customers and colleagues to enforce tenancy agreements where appropriate
    • Perform customer‑related compliance activities within the Neighbourhood team remit
  • Neighbourhood Improvements
    • Support the identification and delivery of improvements needed in communal spaces
    • Develop strong relationships with internal teams and customers to enhance scheme look and feel
    • Participate in budget setting to identify improvement funding requirements
  • Customer Service & Customer Voice
    • Deliver high‑quality customer service and build positive relationships with residents
    • Adopt the Onward+ approach, listening to and acting on the voice of customers
  • Neighbourhood Plus
    • Collaborate across teams and departments to deliver neighbourhood initiatives linked to the Onward Difference
  • Partnership Working
    • Contribute to external partnership work to support effective service delivery
    • Serve as an ambassador for the organisation and advocate for customers

    • Maintain a proactive approach to safeguarding and vulnerability issues
    • Make reasonable adjustments and effectively log customer contacts and details

Qualifications:

  • Essential
    • Knowledge and awareness of related housing regulations and law
    • Experience delivering face‑to‑face customer service
    • Experience developing partnership working with support agencies, local authorities, and community groups
    • Experience delivering on‑site projects and improvements
    • Good understanding of health and safety hazards and building safety
    • Good understanding of the social, economic and political context of the neighbourhoods served
    • Competent IT skills, including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office
    • A full UK driving licence and access to a private vehicle
    • Occasional work outside regular office hours and ability to work across Onward’s geography when required
  • Desirable
    • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., CIH)
  • Education
    • Minimum GCSE standard or equivalent qualification/experience
