Job Overview
VMware/Nutanix Infrastructure Engineer (Contract) – based in Surrey.
Hybrid role requiring 2–3 days onsite per week.
Initial contract 6–12 months, competitive day rate, outside IR35 (to be confirmed).
Key Responsibilities
- Own day‑to‑day administration of VMware and Nutanix environments, ensuring security, resilience and optimal performance.
- Maintain platform health, performance and availability through proactive patching, lifecycle management and firmware upgrades.
- Plan and implement upgrades for VMware, Nutanix, firmware and associated infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and serve as senior technical escalation point.
- Produce and maintain operational and design documentation.
- Collaborate closely with networking, security and broader infrastructure teams.
- Contribute to disaster recovery, resilience and business continuity planning.
- Identify automation opportunities to improve operational processes.
- Mentor and upskill internal infrastructure team members.
- Required Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience administering enterprise VMware environments.
- Hands‑on experience with VMware v Sphere, ESXi and v Center.
- Experience supporting Nutanix AHV environments.
- Knowledge of hyper–converged infrastructure technologies.
- Experience with firmware upgrades, lifecycle management and patching.
- Deep understanding of high availability, clustering and disaster recovery.
- Windows Server infrastructure experience.
- Power Shell scripting and automation experience advantageous.
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.
Desirable Experience
- Nutanix Prism, VMware v SAN, VMware NSX, Dell Vx Rail.
- Azure Stack HCI, Azure Infrastructure.
- Veeam or enterprise backup platforms.
