Ship Fitter - Govan
We are seeking an experienced Ship Fitter / Fabricator to support the fabrication, assembly, installation, and outfitting of large steel structures within a marine and heavy engineering environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality products while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Mark off and prepare materials in line with engineering drawings and specifications.
Assemble and install steel structures, including decks, bulkheads, frames, longitudinals, and shell sections.
Fit, align, and fair steelwork using appropriate tools and techniques.
Fabricate and install structural and outfitting components such as access platforms, ladders, flooring systems, hatches, doors, and equipment supports.
Operate fabrication machinery, including rolling, flanging, cutting, and drilling equipment.
Carry out plate preparation, grinding, cutting, pressure testing, and fitting activities.
Support launch, docking, commissioning, and testing activities as required.
Work collaboratively with supervisors and other trades to resolve practical production challenges.
Assist in mentoring apprentices and sharing trade knowledge.
Knowledge & Skills
Good understanding of fabrication and installation drawings.
Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes within a heavy engineering environment.
Strong awareness of Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) requirements.
Good knowledge of ship fitting, structural assembly, or a related trade.
Understanding of quality standards and work tolerances.
Strong practical hand skills for fabrication and assembly activities.
Effective communication, coaching, and problem-solving abilities.
Qualifications
Recognised trade papers, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification. Relevant safety certifications, including SHE induction, COSHH awareness, Working at Height, or equivalent
