Based in London, this full-time Electrical Engineer - SAP position with Pertemps Thames Water offers a competitive salary up to £64,500, dependent on experience. The field-based role delivers crucial High Voltage technical support across water and waste operations. You will oversee maintenance and repairs, working to tight schedules, and perform SAP duties by issuing HV and LV Permits to Work. Responsibilities also cover practical aspects of electrical power distribution and utilisation.
This permanent contract suits an engineer comfortable at various sites within the Home Counties Thames Valley area. You will liaise closely with operations and maintenance teams, ensuring safe and efficient plant function. Strong knowledge of HV systems and permit procedures is essential for this challenging and rewarding role.
What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Engineer (Senior Authorised Person)
- Working to tight schedules, overseeing operational maintenance, repairs and performing Senior Authorised Person (SAP) duties in issuing High Voltage and Low Voltage Permits to Work.
- Engage with contractors and other third parties in providing oversight and technical supervision of on-site activities.
- Coordinate work activities of multiple working parties – Contractors, Thames Water staff and Distribution Network Operators. (DNO)
- Review RAMS and act as a technical expert to support the approval of TWOSAs.
- Acting as Lead SAP for several operational sites with varying sizes and complexity, comprising a wide range of HV and LV switchgear, equipment, and transformers.
- Coach and mentor the other members of the team and operations staff in preparation for appointment as an Authorised Person.
- Participate in the team on-call out-of-hours rota.
Base Location
Due to the nature of this role, you can be based at a number of our sites depending on your location.
- Basingstoke STW - RG24 8LL
- Mogden STW - TW7 7LW
- Oxford STW - OX4 4XU
Working Pattern
36 Hours per week, Monday - Friday plus Standby rota Car Allowance; all PPE and tools are provided.
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- Experience in the electrical industry
- fault finding on high and low voltage equipment
- clear understanding of HSP 24 Part-01 (Thames Water electrical safety rules)
- BS7671 (18th edition - IEE Wiring Regulations)
- You will be suitably trained, qualified and experienced as a Senior Authorised Person
- good understanding of water/wastewater processes and their relationship to electrical power distribution systems
- You will be a team player
- have good analytical and interpersonal skills
- be an effective communicator
- be willing to face challenging issues
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial
- A valid driving licence is essential
