Overview

The System Optimisation Engineer role in Croydon, offered by Pertemps Thames Water, is a full‑time fixed‑term contract of up to 10 months with a salary of up to £45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

It focuses on maintaining a reliable clean water supply for more than 16 million customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a geographical area of the clean water network, ensuring it operates safely, efficiently and within regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor, investigate and resolve network performance issues, including low‑pressure events and emerging operational risks.
  • Lead the technical response during operational incidents and emergency events to minimise customer impact.
  • Provide technical operational input into engineering projects and planned activities across the network.
  • Complete and review risk assessments for work affecting the clean water network.
  • Develop operating strategies that balance customer service, leakage reduction and network resilience.
  • Analyse operational data to identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of hydraulic principles and clean‑water network operations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make sound technical decisions.
  • Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline; background within the water or utilities industry advantageous.
  • Knowledge of water‑industry regulatory requirements highly beneficial.
