Key Responsibilities
- Authorise vehicle repairs in line with company policies, budgets, and service standards.
- Review repair history, warranty status, and previous maintenance to avoid unnecessary expenditure.
- Challenge repair costs, labour times, and parts pricing to achieve best value.
- Proactively monitor vehicle downtime and work with repairers to return vehicles to service as quickly as possible.
- Build strong working relationships with external repairers, suppliers, manufacturers, and customers.
- Investigate opportunities to recover costs through warranty claims, goodwill contributions, or supplier accountability.
- Source suitable replacement parts where required to minimise delays.
- Ensure rechargeable repairs are correctly identified, documented, and communicated.
- Monitor maintenance expenditure against agreed budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Escalate unresolved technical or supplier issues where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide performance data and reports as required.
- Support colleagues across the maintenance and customer service teams to deliver an excellent customer experience.

About You
You’ll have a strong technical background in commercial vehicle maintenance together with excellent communication and negotiation skills. You are confident making decisions, managing multiple priorities, and balancing customer service with commercial awareness.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as an HGV/LGV Technician, Workshop Controller, Maintenance Controller, or similar technical role.
- Strong understanding of commercial vehicle maintenance and repair standards.
- Experience managing repairs through third‑party workshops or suppliers.
- Good knowledge of repair methods, labour times, and parts pricing.
- Proven ability to control maintenance costs without compromising quality or compliance.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and maintenance management systems.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a team.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
Desirable Experience
- Within fleet management, contract hire, rental, logistics, or transport operations.
- Knowledge of warranty processes and cost recovery.
- Familiarity with vehicle damage assessment or body repair processes.
