Overview
The Senior Controls Engineer position in Clevedon offers a salary of up to £53,000 per annum, plus a bonus, and is a full-time, permanent role based on-site.
Reporting to the Controls Engineering Manager, you will own the design and specification of control and visualization software for advanced engineering products.
Your remit includes providing technical leadership, mentoring junior colleagues, and driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop PLC and HMI software for new and existing products.
- Produce and review software specifications and technical documentation.
- Carry out software testing, validation, and simulation activities.
- Support project planning and ensure engineering activities are delivered on time.
- Drive continuous improvement of controls engineering processes and standards.
- Investigate software quality issues and provide expert technical support.
- Produce software release documentation, manuals, and build notes.
- Mentor junior engineers and deliver technical training across the team.
Qualifications
- HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Controls Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least five years' experience in controls and software engineering.
- Strong PLC programming experience, including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Blocks, and Data Structures.
- HMI programming experience using VB. NET or similar high-level languages.
- Experience with Modbus communications, software configuration management, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of P&ID drawings, electrical schematics, PID control loops, HAZOP, and FMEA.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor colleagues and work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Desirable: PLC hardware configuration, simulation tools, HTML5, Java Script, ASP, functional safety systems, and SEMI industry standards.

This is an on-site role based in Clevedon, North Somerset, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Occasional travel to customer sites and other engineering locations may be required.
