Pertemps Newcastle is recruiting a Business Development Lead for a commercial utility and sustainability consultancy in Tyne And Wear. This full-time position offers a salary between £45,000 and £55,000 per annum.
You will identify, develop, and secure new clients across their sustainability and renewable energy portfolio, engaging with business leaders and operations teams. The consultancy helps organisations reduce environmental impact and improve profitability through carbon accountancy and Net Zero strategies. You will manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting to closing, and build lasting relationships. Prior experience in consultative selling, particularly within energy or sustainability services, is essential. The Role
We are working with a leading commercial utility and sustainability consultancy, helping organisations reduce their environmental impact while improving efficiency and profitability. Through their specialist sustainability consultancy and carbon accountancy services, they support businesses on their journey to Net Zero. As demand for sustainable business solutions continues to grow, they are seeking an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Partner to help expand their client base and accelerate growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate and develop new business opportunities through proactive prospecting, networking and referrals.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities across carbon consultancy, compliance services, renewable energy solutions and energy efficiency projects.
- Develop strategic relationships with key decision-makers including CEOs, CFOs, Operations Directors, Sustainability Managers and Procurement Leaders.
- Conduct client meetings, presentations and solution-based sales discussions.
- Identify client challenges and develop tailored commercial proposals aligned to their sustainability objectives.
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial engagement through to negotiation and contract completion.
- Collaborate with technical consultants to create compelling and innovative client solutions.
- Maintain accurate records within the CRM system and provide regular pipeline reporting.
- Stay informed on legislation, market trends and developments within sustainability, carbon reduction and renewable energy sectors.
- Represent the business at industry events, exhibitions and networking opportunities.
- Achieve and exceed individual sales targets and revenue objectives.
About You
- Essential Experience Proven track record in business development, sales or account management.
- Experience generating and winning new business within a B2B environment.
- Knowledge of the renewable energy sector and wider sustainability marketplace.
- Strong consultative sales skills with the ability to engage senior decision-makers.
- Experience managing complex sales processes and multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Self‑motivated, target‑driven and commercially focused.
Desirable Experience
- Experience selling sustainability consultancy, carbon management, energy services, utilities or environmental solutions.
- Knowledge of Net Zero strategies, carbon reporting, SECR, ESOS, ISO14001 or ESG frameworks.
- Experience selling software‑based or SaaS solutions.
- Existing network within sustainability, energy, facilities management or commercial sectors.
