Responsibilities
- Prepare the chapel before each service, ensuring it is clean, welcoming and ready for families.
- Operate the chapel media system, including music, visual tributes and webcasts.
- Greet funeral directors, celebrants and mourners with empathy, professionalism and respect.
- Check documentation and the identity of the deceased before services.
- Remain in attendance during services to provide support and maintain a safe environment.
- Prepare the chapel between services and maintain floral tribute areas.
- Assist with the scattering of ashes in the Garden of Remembrance, sometimes in the presence of families.
- Support remembrance events, open days and other activities.
- Carry out routine checks and help maintain high standards across both crematorium sites.
About you / Qualifications
- Compassionate, dependable and able to work calmly in an emotionally sensitive environment.
- Excellent customer service skills and experience dealing with members of the public.
- Ability to communicate sensitively with people who may be grieving.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Confidence using computers or willingness to learn new systems.
- Ability to work independently, use initiative and remain organized under pressure.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths, or relevant experience.
- Experience in a customer-facing role is essential, particularly handling sensitive conversations or supporting people during difficult situations.
