Jam Press is a news agency sourcing and distributing content for major publishers. We create a steady stream of stories daily across print, digital and social platforms. We’re expanding with a new role: Showbiz Discovery Reporter. This is a remote full-time role offering a competitive salary, training and support, and company benefits.
We’re looking for a journalist who digs deeper than standard showbiz headlines, finding unique angles and timely trends before they become viral.
You will join a friendly team of reporters and editors who are passionate about delivering quality journalism.
What we are looking for
This role involves traditional journalistic reporting with a twist: you should not merely regurgitate heavily covered A-lister lines, but identify golden nuggets and fresh perspectives in showbiz news. You are passionate about showbiz and understand that the media landscape is evolving beyond red-carpet looks or the latest streaming topic.
You will move across topics—from audience reactions to specific events to sign-ups for case studies—and you will pitch, source and chase stories with tight deadlines. You should be comfortable engaging the public, securing quotes and media, and licensing content as needed.
You will:
- Keep up with local and global events, with a pulse on showbiz, TV and entertainment news
- Monitor social media trends and spot stories before they go viral
- Pitch, source and chase stories daily across entertainment topics
- Verify information, interview case studies and experts, and license content
- Create and maintain a contact list of celebrity, PR and agency sources
- Monitor the Jam Press Showbiz Wire
- Follow up with case studies and provide high-quality duty of care
- Source photos and captions, and request additional imagery/video as needed
- Work with the production team on imagery and footage
- Source content for Jam Press social media channels
Responsibilities
- Keep up with showbiz/news trends and maintain a pulse on entertainment topics
- Identify and pitch stories with strong angles, meeting tight deadlines
- Interview and verify information, licensing content as required
- Develop and maintain a network of sources across celebrity, PR and agencies
- Collaborate with production for visuals and multimedia content
- Contribute to Jam Press Showbiz Wire and other outlets
