We operate a 12-month (September 2027 - August 2028) student placement programme within our Formula E Car Development (Software) group.
This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside highly skilled and experienced engineering professionals and graduates, offering plenty of scope to learn and develop - the more questions you ask the more you will gain from your experience.
It is important to know that many of our industrial placements have been successful in obtaining graduate roles on completion of their degree.
To be eligible for an industrial placement within our Formula E Car Development (Software) group you should be working towards a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related area.
What you will do
During the placement you will take on responsibilities such as
- Working as an integral part of the Car Development team.
- Developing a new generation of software tools, APIs, and packages using the modern .
NET stack (C# – candidates do not need prior experience with the language but should be confident programmers who understand core principles and are eager to learn), cloud technologies (Azure, AWS) and containerization (Docker, WSL containers).
- This will support the standardisation and automation of our applications including:
- Trackside car ECU monitoring/configuration and sensor calibration
- Cloud-based technical document management
- Cloud-based event management
- Tooling to support performance and system engineer workflows
- Supporting the development and maintenance of databases in SQL (T-SQL, Postgres) and No SQL (Mongo DB).
- Writing unit, integration and mutation tests to ensure high code quality.
- Experiment with agentic coding using cutting edge frontier AI models with generous budgets (like everyone, we’re still figuring this one out!).
Our goal is to reduce the time it takes for engineers to make valuable performance decisions over a race weekend.
