Product Engineering at JLR is centred on innovation and creativity. From advanced driver assistance systems to developing the future of electric propulsion, the opportunities to create exceptional experiences for the future of motoring are wide-ranging. You will work alongside industry experts to drive product strategy, manage programs, analyse performance, and lead transformation initiatives. Exceptional careers that bring world-renowned vehicles to life start here.
We are looking for a skilled Senior HIL Test Engineer to play a key role in advancing our Assisted & Automated Driving (AAD) capability. You will join a collaborative engineering environment where simulation, system integration and real-world testing come together to deliver the next generation of ADAS technologies.
In this role, you will take ownership of test strategy and execution across both virtual and vehicle-based platforms, using state-of-the-art Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments to validate complex driving features. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will design test cases, run automated and manual testing, triage issues, and provide the technical evidence needed for engineering sign-off. This is an opportunity to work at the heart of JLR's transformation, helping to ensure our AAD systems are robust, safe, and ready for our future vehicles. If you thrive in a hands-on, technically challenging environment and want to contribute to meaningful automotive innovation, this role offers the impact and scope you are looking for.
What to Expect
In this role, you will play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including:
- Develop test strategies and author test cases aligned with AAD system requirements, following established industry-standard methodologies.
- Execute both manual and automated tests across HIL environments reporting accurate verdicts and outcomes.
- Perform detailed failure analysis, categorise defects, and raise all software and hardware issues using defined processes.
- Manage test reports, evidence storage and documentation to support robust feature, system and sub-system sign-off.
- Create automated test scripts and executable sequences, including scenario generation within the deployed automation framework.
- Validate automatically generated test cases and contribute to the development and improvement of test automation frameworks.
- Support HIL rig planning and operational activities, while driving continuous improvement to enhance test efficiency and product quality.
What You'll Need
We are looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including:
- Solid experience in automotive software testing, including requirements-based testing, design verification and validation, with strong familiarity with Automotive SPICE processes.
- Strong understanding of Assisted & Automated Driving (AAD) features at system, component and software level.
- Good working knowledge of vehicle architecture and in-vehicle networks, including Automotive Ethernet, CAN, LIN and FlexRay.
- Practical understanding of vehicle diagnostics, especially UDS (ISO 14229-1), and how diagnostic protocols apply to ADAS systems.
- Hands-on experience developing and executing tests on HIL platforms, plus scenario-based testing experience (ideally using tools like DriveSim).
- Competent in industry tools such as TRM, JIRA, CANape, CANalyser, CANoe, TestStand, VeriStand, LabVIEW, AutomationDesk and ControlDesk.
- Proven ability to plan and deliver HIL rig activities and manage projects effectively, demonstrating proactive delivery and strong adherence to deadlines.
Benefits
This role is rewarding in more ways than one. On top of our core offering, you will do extraordinary work with amazing people. In addition, you can expect a wide range of benefits:
- Discounted car purchase (open to family members, too).
- A 52 week maternity leave policy and a 4 week paternity leave policy. Other parental leave policies are available.
- A competitive pension.
- A JLR company performance-related bonus.
- An employee learning scheme providing funding for education, training and other activities which support the development of personal skills and promote lifelong learning.
- Access to open, employee-led support and social networks.
- Comprehensive Life Assurance and Income Protection policies.
- Flexible working.

At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees more choice and flexibility around how, when and where they work.
