At JLR, we design, engineer and build the vehicles of the future. And powering those vehicles are the automotive systems that give our customers cutting‑edge features like assisted and automated driving. This year‑long undergraduate programme will introduce you to those systems and give you the technical skills and practical experience you need to become a successful engineering professional. You could be working in one of the following departments: Energy Platform (EP), Vehicle Platform (VP), Digital Platform (DP) or Engineering Operations (EO).

ENERGY PLATFORM (EP) TEAM – Gaydon, Whitley, NAIC, Solihull
The Energy Platform team unite power, performance, and connectivity to shape the future of exceptional and environmentally friendly driving experiences. Our iconic brands are the foundation of exemplary British engineering, and now we’re leveraging cutting‑edge research and innovation to develop the next generation of electric drive units, energy storage systems, engines, batteries, transmissions, and drivelines.

VEHICLE PLATFORM (VP) TEAM – Gaydon, Whitley, NAIC, Solihull
The Vehicle Platform team is where engineering meets innovation - delivering world class automotive experiences. We engineer and deliver the core systems that define the customer experience - everything from Body Interiors, Body Exteriors, Body in White, Chassis, EDU, Powertrains and Accessories. We are a large, highly skilled team with a focus on integrating cutting‑edge technology and engineering excellence to create vehicles that set new standards in performance, comfort and safety.

DIGITAL PLATFORM (DP) TEAM – Gaydon
Our Digital Platform team design, develop and shape the future of our electronics and complex systems. If you join this team, you could be driving the design, development and validation of JLR’s cutting‑edge technology solutions. Or you could focus on model development and simulation at either system or component level. Whatever you work on here, you’ll be key to helping us deliver the premium features and consistent quality that our customers expect.

ENGINEERING OPERATIONS (EO) TEAM – Gaydon, Lyons Park
Engineering Operations underpins JLR’s technical innovation and product delivery through tools, processes and specialist services that support everything from project management and data analytics to prototype build and testing. The team is involved at every stage of vehicle development, helping transform how JLR engineers and delivers world‑class products.

Across the 12‑month programme within Engineering Operations, you’ll complete three six‑week rotations in different Engineering Operations teams, giving you broad exposure to software tools, data‑driven engineering and real project work. You’ll collaborate on business‑critical programmes, work with advanced technology and be supported by a dedicated mentor as you contribute to JLR’s product development and propulsion innovations.

As an undergraduate in EO, you could join one of two specialist teams:

  • Technology Facility & Development – (Gaydon) – responsible for designing and delivering the test facilities, rigs and electrical systems that support Build and Test Operations. You’ll help to design and develop the test facilities that support vehicle testing across safety, climate, NVH and electrified systems. This hands‑on role gives you experience with electrical systems, industrial installations, PLCs and CAD‑based design, while supporting live test labs and solving real engineering challenges. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers, contribute to projects from concept through delivery, and see how well‑designed facilities directly influence the quality, reliability and performance of JLR’s future vehicles.
  • Battery Test (Lyons Park) – responsible for electrical performance and characterising testing of lithium‑ion batteries at cell, module and pack level to support Design Verification of hybrid and electric vehicles. You’ll support the testing of lithium‑ion batteries at cell, module and pack level, using advanced digital tools and state‑of‑the‑art facilities to generate high‑quality data that underpins safety and performance. Alongside supporting live tests, you’ll help develop new test methods, investigate technical issues and collaborate with cross‑functional teams – gaining valuable, real‑world engineering experience in a fast‑growing area of the business. This experience gives you a strong foundation in electric vehicle technology and places you at the forefront of JLR’s transition toward a net‑zero future.
