Exceptional careers that bring world-renowned vehicles to life start here.

Join JLR as a Battery Cell Test Engineer and help shape the future of electrification. Based at our Advanced Battery Engineering (ABE) lab in Coventry, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, reliable test data that supports the development and design verification of our high-voltage traction battery systems—at the cell and subsystem level.

Working at the heart of our cutting-edge cell testing facility, you’ll be responsible for planning, preparing, and executing a wide range of automated test routines across multiple concurrent batches of cells. With each test installation focused on a single test objective, your attention to detail will be critical—ensuring that even the smallest variations in instrumentation or setup are identified and controlled to maintain data integrity.

You’ll collaborate with engineers across the business, lead problem-solving activities, and ensure that every test meets the highest standards of technical accuracy and safety.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a growing, forward-thinking team that’s powering the next generation of JLR vehicles. If you’re passionate about battery technology, thrive in a hands-on environment, and have a meticulous eye for data quality, we’d love to hear from you.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including –

  • Take full ownership of battery test delivery by ensuring thorough preparation of both the test facility and test components, while adhering to agreed test schedules to enable the timely and accurate delivery of data
  • Provide technical expertise in the setup and execution of battery tests, including the measurement and interpretation of data that will inform key engineering decisions
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the activities of small project teams to ensure testing objectives are met efficiently and effectively
  • Support the review of test requests, assessing their feasibility and ensuring they fall below EUCAR Hazard Level 4
  • Act as a champion for process documentation in line with the JLR Way and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), while also supporting the collection and reporting of team KPIs to LL6 and senior management

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

We’re looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including –

  • Demonstrated experience in supervising engineering teams, offering technical advice and guidance, and a proven ability to mentor and train others—particularly technicians, apprentices, and skilled associates
  • Extensive experience in requirements capture, data acquisition, control systems, programming of automated tests, as well as the analysis and reporting of test data
  • A natural problem-solver with a structured and methodical approach to resolving technical challenges in complex environments
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulations, including Risk Assessments, COSHH, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Sound knowledge of working in high-voltage or high-risk environments, with hands-on experience in Lithium-ion battery technology
  • An individual who can positively challenge existing thinking while building credibility and trust through both experience and personal approach—aligned with and championing JLR’s Creators’ Code

BENEFITS

This role is rewarding in more ways than one. On top of our core offering, you’ll do extraordinary work with amazing people. In addition, you can expect a wide range of benefits:
