This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of electrification at JLR, working at the forefront of innovation in electric vehicle technology.

The Battery Engineering department is responsible for the complete design, development, and engineering sign-off of all JLR battery systems. Operating as a matrix organisation, the team brings together designers, test and validation engineers, and programme leaders to deliver world-class battery solutions. Within this structure, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) act as the technical authorities for specific commodities or systems, ensuring compliance, performance, and integration across the product lifecycle.

As a Technical Lead for Busbar Systems, you will serve as the go-to expert for all technical matters relating to this critical component. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our busbar solutions meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and manufacturability. If you’re passionate about high-voltage systems, thrive in a collaborative environment, and want to be part of one of the UK’s most iconic and progressive automotive brands, we’d love to hear from you.

WHAT TO EXPECT

As part of the team, you’ll be involved in a number of core activities that contribute to the success of the department, such as –

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for busbar systems, focusing on standardisation of design, testing, and validation requirements
  • Lead the delivery of technical compliance for assigned commodities, ensuring alignment with programme milestones
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to delivery engineers to uphold technical integrity and best practice
  • Offer expert guidance on complex problem-solving and facilitate cross-functional issue resolution
  • Champion continuous improvement by enhancing technical standards, design guidelines, and detection methods
  • Develop and maintain the busbar strategy, incorporating emerging technologies and supporting sustainability objectives
  • Ensure robust data integrity across systems such as ‘Requirement Management’, DVP&R and maintain accurate documentation
  • Support supplier selection and programme delivery through technical assessments and leadership across interfacing teams

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

The ideal candidate will have a strong mix of experience, recognised training, and capabilities such as –

  • Extensive knowledge of high-voltage (HV) battery systems and their integration within automotive applications
  • Strong understanding of battery manufacturing processes, assembly methods, and associated design constraints
  • Deep expertise in busbar engineering design principles, materials, and performance considerations
  • Proficient in deploying quality documents such as DFMEA, lessons learned along with good understanding of PFMEA and Critical Characteristics
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, confident technical direction across cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical skills with a structured approach to problem definition and resolution using tools such as G8D, Practical Problem Solving (PPS) and Level 0 problem-solving techniques
  • A relevant engineering degree or equivalent industry experience is preferred
  • In-depth experience in developing test cases and applying continuous improvement methodologies

Creating Modern Luxury requires a modern approach to work. At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees more choice and flexibility around how, when and where they work. Some roles require more on-site work, but details of this can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview stage.

We work hard to nurture a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We understand candidates may require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process. Please discuss these with your recruiter so we can accommodate your needs.

Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome. If you’re unsure that you meet the full criteria of a role – but you're interested in where it could take you – we still encourage you to apply. We believe in people's ability to grow and develop within their role – it’s what makes living the exceptional with soul possible.

JLR is committed to equal opportunity for all.
