Hybrid working is potentially available, depending on the area and manager. JLR is a multi-site business, and you'll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations.
Our undergraduate programmes offer a direct pipeline to our graduate scheme, which is not eligible for sponsorship. Therefore, JLR will only accept applications for this programme from candidates who would have the right to work in the UK at the point that they would successfully convert to the graduate programme.

PRODUCT ENGINEERING: ELECTRICAL AND COMPLEX SYSTEMS UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME
At JLR, we design, engineer and build the vehicles of the future. And powering those vehicles are the automotive systems that give our customers cutting-edge features like assisted and automated driving. This year-long undergraduate programme will introduce you to those systems and give you the technical skills and practical experience you need to become a successful engineering professional.
You could be working in one of the following departments: Energy Platform (EP), Vehicle Platform (VP), Digital Platform (DP) or Engineering Operations (EO). Below you can find out more about the teams you could be working in. The team you're placed in will depend on your personal preferences and business needs.
- ENERGY PLATFORM (EP) TEAM - Gaydon, Whitley, NAIC, Solihull
The Energy Platform team unite power, performance, and connectivity to shape the future of exceptional and environmentally friendly driving experiences. Our iconic brands are the foundation of exemplary British engineering, and now we're leveraging cutting-edge research and innovation to develop the next generation of electric drive units, energy storage systems, engines, batteries, transmissions, and drivelines. As a global team, we're focused on advancing battery technology and integrating the best available solutions to deliver exceptional Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) experiences and performance. - VEHICLE PLATFORM (VP) TEAM – Gaydon, Whitley, NAIC, Solihull
The Vehicle Platform team is where engineering meets innovation - delivering world class automotive experiences. We engineer and deliver the core systems that define the customer experience - everything from Body Interiors, Body Exteriors, Body in White, Chassis, EDU, Powertrains and Accessories. We are a large, highly skilled team with a focus on integrating cutting-edge technology and engineering excellence to create vehicles that set new standards in performance, comfort and safety. As an Electronics and Complex Systems Undergraduate at JLR, you'll join one of our specialist engineering teams—such as Lighting, Electric Drive Units, Accessories, Transmissions, Body Structures, Cooling Systems, Suspension, or Chassis. Working alongside experienced engineers, you'll help design, develop, and test real-world solutions that shape the future of mobility. You'll gain hands-on experience with industry-leading tools and methodologies, from concept design through to development and verification. Whether you're working on new products or improving existing ones, you'll make a real impact while learning from experts across the business. This placement will accelerate your growth as an engineer, build your professional network, and prepare you for the challenges of tomorrow's automotive industry. - DIGITAL PLATFORM TEAM
The Digital Platform team design, develop and shape the future of our electronics and complex systems. In this role you could either drive the design, development and validation of JLR's cutting-edge technology solutions or focus on model development and simulation at either system or component level. Whatever you work on here, you'll be key to helping us deliver the premium features and consistent quality that our customers expect. - ENGINEERING OPERATIONS (EO) TEAM (Gaydon, Lyons Park)
Engineering Operations underpins JLR's technical innovation and product delivery through tools, processes and specialist services that support everything from project management and data analytics to prototype build and testing. The team is involved at every stage of vehicle development, helping transform how JLR engineers and delivers world-class products. Across the 12-month programme within Engineering Operations, you'll complete three six-week rotations in different Engineering Operations teams, giving you broad exposure to software tools, data-driven engineering and real project work. You'll collaborate on business-critical programmes, work with advanced technology and be supported by a dedicated mentor as you contribute to JLR's product development and propulsion innovations. As an undergraduate in EO, you could join one of two specialist teams:
- Technology Facility & Development – (Gaydon)– responsible for designing and delivering the test facilities, rigs and electrical systems that support Build and Test Operations. You'll help to design and develop the test facilities that support vehicle testing across safety, climate, NVH and electrified systems. This hands-on role gives you experience with electrical systems, industrial installations, PLCs and CAD-based design, while supporting live test labs and solving real engineering challenges. You'll work closely with experienced engineers, contribute to projects from concept through delivery, and see how well-designed facilities directly influence the quality, reliability and performance of JLR's future vehicles.
- Battery Test (Lyons Park)– responsible for electrical performance and characterising testing of lithium-ion batteries at cell, module and pack level to support Design Verification of hybrid and electric vehicles. You'll support the testing of lithium-ion batteries at cell, module and pack level, using advanced digital tools and state-of-the-art facilities to generate high-quality data that underpins safety and performance. Alongside supporting live tests, you'll help develop new test methods, investigate technical issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams – gaining valuable, real-world engineering experience in a fast-growing area of the business. This experience gives you a strong foundation in electric vehicle technology and places you at the forefront of JLR's transition toward a net-zero future.

By the time you finish, you'll be equipped to tackle the challenges of a rapidly changing industry and ready to make a meaningful impact.
WHAT'S REQUIRED?
To join the Product Engineering Electrical and Complex Systems Undergraduate Programme, you'll need to be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in systems engineering, electronic and communications engineering, computer science, software engineering, cryptography, maths or physics. You should be a skilled problem-solver with curiosity for understanding business challenges and a drive to deliver innovative solutions. Strong numerical and interpersonal skills, along with the confidence to champion new initiatives, are also essential. Please note that our undergraduate placement opportunities are open only to penultimate-year students (those who will be returning to their final year of study or on an integrated master's after their placement with us). All our undergraduate programmes have a fixed start date, commencing 6th of July ****.
