This role will work as part of the maintenance site services team at Solihull and is responsible for carrying out preventative and corrective tasks on electrical equipment. The Technical Electrical Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the plant and equipment is effectively maintained and its technical availability remains at 100%.
What to Expect
- You’ll be a proactive, safety‑focused electrical technician with expertise in maintenance, testing, and compliance across industrial systems.
- Deliver both reactive and planned maintenance on electrical distribution systems to ensure operational reliability across all facilities.
- Apply structured fault‑finding techniques to diagnose and repair control circuitry efficiently.
- Support initial and periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations in line with BS7671:2018 regulations.
- Conduct Electrical Equipment Testing (PAT) in accordance with the IET Code of Practice (5th Edition).
- Assist with the servicing, testing, and maintenance of emergency lighting systems to BS EN 50172 / BS 5266 standards.
- Ensure all electrical installations comply with DSEAR and ATEX regulations while maintaining strict environmental and legislative compliance.
- Develop preventative maintenance plans based on manufacturer guidance and support identification of new low‑voltage distribution equipment, with flexibility to adjust working hours and shift patterns as required.
What You’ll Need
- You’ll be a highly skilled electrical engineer with strong expertise in low‑voltage distribution, compliance, and modern maintenance methodologies within industrial and building services environments.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of low‑voltage electrical distribution systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operation.
- Hold City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS7671:2018, Amendment 2 – 2382).
- Possess a solid working knowledge of plant engineering and building services, including HVAC, gas, water, air, and electrical systems.
- Utilise Building Management Systems (BMS) to monitor, control, and optimise facility performance.
- Apply principles of Condition‑Based Monitoring, Predictive Maintenance, MTBF, and MTTR to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
- Adhere to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Safe Systems of Work, and preventative maintenance processes to maintain a strong safety culture.
- Embrace lean manufacturing techniques and demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing shift patterns and operational demands at short notice.
