As an Automation Engineer at Jagex, you’ll design, build, and evolve the automation systems, tools, and workflows that support an open-world experience in Unreal Engine across PC and console platforms.

, you’ll establish and lead a new Delivery Engineering function within our Developer Platform division.

Your team will own the shared tooling, automation, standards, and engineering practices that help our game, platform, and product teams build, test, and release high-quality software with greater speed, confidence, and consistency.

This is a genuinely greenfield opportunity where you'll grow and lead a multidisciplinary team of Automation Engineers, set its direction and priorities, and work with development leads across multiple products and technology stacks to solve delivery challenges and drive the adoption of modern engineering practices.

What you’ll be doing

  • Shape and execute the strategy for Delivery Engineering, establishing a clear roadmap that improves developer productivity, software quality, release reliability, and engineering consistency across Jagex.
  • Build and lead a growing team of Automation Engineers, developing the team’s capabilities across software automation, testing, continuous delivery, release engineering, and developer tooling.
  • Partner with game, platform, and product engineering teams to understand their delivery challenges, turning their needs into practical solutions that development teams trust, adopt, and benefit from.
  • Lead the development of reusable platforms, automation, and engineering standards, helping teams improve how they build, test, release, and operate software while retaining appropriate autonomy.
  • Modernise fragmented tooling and delivery practices across the business, reducing duplication and applying emerging technologies, including AI, where they can demonstrate measurable improvements in engineering productivity.
  • Define and track engineering effectiveness metrics, using data to demonstrate improvements in developer experience, delivery performance, software quality, and platform adoption.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience leading the design and evolution of automation platforms, engineering frameworks, or developer tooling within a modern software engineering environment.
  • Strong programming experience in one or more languages, such as C#, Java, Python, Go, or Type Script, with the technical depth to guide teams in building scalable and maintainable engineering solutions.
  • Extensive experience with automated testing and continuous delivery, including test automation frameworks and CI/CD platforms such as Git Hub Actions, Team City, Azure Dev Ops, or comparable technologies.
  • Practical experience with cloud-native engineering environments, including cloud platforms, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, containerisation, and orchestration technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Docker, or Kubernetes.
  • Demonstrable understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, and microservices, with experience making pragmatic technical decisions across complex or varied technology stacks.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and drive adoption, including defining engineering metrics, influencing across teams, and delivering measurable improvements in software delivery.
