Are you an experienced and creative Game Designer who thrives on bringing captivating stories and immersive experiences to life in multiplayer open worlds?
As a Quest Designer on RuneScape: Dragonwilds – our new open-world survival crafting game set in the RuneScape universe – you’ll take ownership of quests and world events from initial concept to final implementation. You\’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to craft compelling content that fuses deep narrative with engaging gameplay systems.
This is an opportunity to shape the voice and storytelling experience of Ashenfall, blending RuneScape’s legacy of memorable quests with fresh, innovative design for a new generation of players in a different genre of game.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design and implement quests and world events from concept through to completion.
- Script quest flows, gameplay logic, and dialogue using proprietary tools and Blueprints in Unreal Engine 5.
- Block out layouts and place quest actors and gameplay objects across an open-world map.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, artists, and fellow designers to champion the quest vision and refine quest tools and tech.
- Partner with analytics, product, and user research to integrate player insights into quest iteration and balancing.
- Document design requirements, tooling needs, and content implementation for smooth collaboration and future scalability.
- Ensure quests are tightly aligned with overarching narrative and gameplay goals.
- Regularly iterate on pacing, challenge, flow, and rewards based on playtests and data.
What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience as a Quest Designer or similar content design role on multiplayer, MMO, survival, or action titles.
- Strong understanding of narrative structure, pacing, and player motivation.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing quest or event content in multiplayer settings.
- Hands-on proficiency with Unreal Engine 5, including Blueprints and collaborative workflows.
- Demonstrable ability to block out and prototype quest layouts in open world spaces.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
