Office location: Cambridge, UK – This is a hybrid role that will include some working days from our office in Cambridge to be agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be based (or willing to relocate) within a comfortable commuting distance of our office to attend onsite as required.
Are you a QA Analyst who understands open-world gameplay systems and has a strong drive to help shape high-quality player experiences? As a Quality Assurance Analyst on RuneScape: Dragonwilds, you’ll be a key part of the team ensuring the stability, performance, and player experience of our expansive open-world survival crafting game. You’ll work closely with developers, designers, and producers, testing complex interconnected gameplay systems, identifying quality risks early, and ensuring new features meet expectations across platforms.
You’ll take ownership of feature testing, guide junior team members, and contribute to continuously improving our QA practices. This role is ideal for someone with experience testing on console and PC, comfortable navigating open-world QA challenges, and excited to grow their technical and collaborative skills.
What you’ll be doing:
- Gain a deep understanding of new and evolving features, offering feedback on design and quality considerations.
- Create and execute structured test plans across gameplay systems such as survival mechanics, AI, crafting, exploration, and environmental interactions.
- Document and communicate clear, concise, and actionable defects, including steps to reproduce, severity, and potential impact.
- Participate in test strategy discussions, helping to assess system interactions, coverage gaps, and quality risks.
- Perform a variety of tests including functional, regression, compatibility, and performance testing across console and PC builds.
- Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of QA tools and workflows.
- Analyse defect trends and test results to identify patterns or coverage gaps.
- Collaborate closely with development teams to clarify feature intent, verify fixes, and support quality alignment.
- Provide informed input in bug triage and task prioritisation discussions based on test impact and player experience.
- Informally mentor and support junior testers by sharing knowledge and reviewing test output.
- Maintain and improve test documentation, identifying gaps and updating knowledge bases.
- Take ownership of testing for specific features or systems, tracking progress and reporting risks.
- Build expertise in selected gameplay or technical areas, becoming a go-to QA contact for those systems.
What we’re looking for:
- Solid understanding of QA principles and the game development lifecycle.
- Proven QA experience in game development, with hands-on testing across console platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch).
- Awareness of TRC/TCR guidelines and experience identifying potential certification blockers.
- Strong understanding of cross-platform parity challenges and ensuring feature consistency across PC and console.
- Experience testing complex systems typical of open-world or survival games.
- Familiarity with open-world testing challenges such as streaming, systemic content, emergent gameplay, and large-scale environments.
- Proficiency with test and defect management tools (e.g. Jira, Xray, TestRail), producing clear and actionable reports.
- Analytical mindset with a proven ability to identify defect trends, regressions, and areas needing deeper test coverage.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work closely with designers, engineers, and production.
- Confident contributor in Scrum teams and agile workflows.
- Excellent documentation habits, including test cases and feature outlines.
- Growing familiarity with performance considerations and profiling basics (e.g. frame rate, memory usage, load times).
- Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities with high attention to detail.
