Location: Cambridge, UK – This position can accommodate flexible working options. However, candidates must be based (or be willing to relocate) within a comfortable commuting distance of our Cambridge office to be able to attend onsite as required.
Are you an experienced developer with a strong understanding of scripting and a passion for maintaining high-quality standards across community-driven content? As a Plugin Moderator, you’ll review and support community-created plugins, ensuring they meet technical, quality, and security standards. Working across internal teams and the wider player community, you’ll help shape guidelines, improve processes, and maintain a consistent and reliable experience for players. This is a technically focused role working at the intersection of development, tooling, and community engagement, ensuring code quality, stability, and safety across externally created content. You’ll play a key role in a brand-new plugin system, helping players enhance gameplay while protecting the integrity of the game.
What you’ll be doing:
- Review and assess community-created Lua plugins to ensure they meet technical, quality, and gameplay standards.
- Identify and prevent malicious code, data harvesting, or unauthorised gameplay interactions (e.g. botting).
- Provide structured, constructive feedback on code quality, design, and implementation to external developers.
- Work closely with community teams, designers, and engineers to define requirements and shape plugin functionality.
- Maintain and evolve community guidelines and documentation to support consistent development practices.
- Support maintenance of internal tools, systems, and workflows related to plugin review and integration.
- Track and manage tasks using established production processes, contributing to delivery across multiple initiatives.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience working with Lua and a solid foundation in programming.
- Strong understanding of code quality, debugging, and performance considerations.
- Ability to read and analyse code to identify risks or malicious intent.
- Experience using version control systems such as Git or Perforce.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and constructive feedback to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working independently with a high level of ownership.
Nice to have:
- Experience reviewing or maintaining third-party or community-created code.
- Understanding of plugin/modding ecosystems within games.
- Experience building or maintaining plugins in a games environment.
- Familiarity with RuneScape or similar titles.
