Are you looking to start a career in cloud and reliability engineering, working on the infrastructure behind some of the world's biggest and longest-running online games?
As a Junior Cloud Reliability Engineer in our Developer Platform team, you'll help support the backend infrastructure powering Rune Scape, Old School Rune Scape, and Rune
Scape: Dragonwilds.
Working within a small team, you'll gain hands-on experience across cloud infrastructure, networking, Linux systems, and game services while learning how to keep hundreds of thousands of players online every day.
This role offers a lot of development opportunities.
You'll begin by supporting existing systems and responding to day-to-day operational requests before progressing to independent ownership of infrastructure projects as your technical skills and experience grow.
What you’ll be doing
Learn our backend infrastructure which will cover game world systems, networking, build pipelines, version control, data center hardware, and cloud infrastructure.
- Handle day-to-day support requests and troubleshoot issues across our live systems, escalating quickly when needed and following up to understand the root cause.
- Support development teams in managing cloud-native workloads and consuming our cloud platform through Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Contribute to the management of our Linux virtual machine fleet, including monitoring, configuration management, and workload optimisation.
- Participate in incident response and post-mortems, developing your understanding of how complex systems fail and how to make them more resilient.
What we’re looking for
- Comfortable working in a Linux terminal environment and writing bash scripts.
- Familiarity with at least one programming language such as Python - we’re open to any language if you can demonstrate how you think through problems.
- A solid understanding of networking concepts and the OSI model.
- A genuine problem-solving mindset - you enjoy working through complex issues, aren’t satisfied with surface-level answers, and naturally ask how and why things work the way they do.
- Good communication skills and a desire to keep learning, including the confidence to ask questions and challenge existing approaches.
- Prior infrastructure or SRE experience is a plus.
What we offer
- When you join Jagex you can look forward to a generous Perks & Benefits package including:
- Private Healthcare, including Dental Plan.
- Discretionary annual performance bonus.
- Minimum 6% Pension contributions.
- Life Insurance.
- Enhanced family leave policies from day 1.
- Flexible working hours.
- 25 days annual leave + Bank holidays & the option to buy/sell holidays + so much more!
