Job Function: Experienced Mechanical Fitter for building, refurbishing and maintaining of specialised equipment for the Water & Wastewater Industry.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure that Jacopa Health & Safety procedures are adhered to at all times by any persons in or around Jacopa’s premises, particularly the workshop area, and implement any further directives.
- Build specialised equipment from details contained in general arrangement drawings and parts lists as provided. Complete any required associated documentation.
- Using specialised knowledge of the Jacopa products gained to consider solutions to any mechanical engineering problems which may arise.
- Enable improvements to quality, safety and speed of manufacture and assembly, working to quality standards as set by the Company manual and within recognised Health and Safety standards.
- Assist within the department on various projects where and when required, and share knowledge to assist other departments in their duties where necessary.
- Undertake facilities maintenance fitting as and when required including various housekeeping tasks where necessary.
- Sharing of Assembly skills for the building of Jacopa products which may be at the premises of Jacopa’s approved supply chain, this may involve some travel.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
Person Specification
- Previous experience of working within the Water Treatment Industry would be an advantage but not essential.
- Must have previous track record of working in a mechanical/fitting/maintenance role, ideally within medium to heavy engineering – Manual handling training will be given as necessary.
- Experience in cranage and a variety of lifting equipment is required (refresher training will be provided).
- Slinger/signaler experience is essential. (Refresher training will be provided).
- Current/Previous Fork truck licence is essential. (Refresher course provided where licence has expired).
- Experience required in the use of power tools and machinery such as drills, pedestal grinders and punch tools.
- Experience in maintenance fitting as this is often allocated to the fitter/assembler’s role.
Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities
- Will be expected to mentor/train others.
Independent Judgment, Decision Making & Problem Solving
- Ability to make decisions requiring the use of a single variable in standard situations.
- Ability to solve potential problems during manufacture using experience and communication with colleagues.
Education and Training
- A demonstrable level of Health, Safety Training and Environmental awareness and experience and competence for the work assigned.
- City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering desirable, or willingness to undertake a similar qualification where required.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Computer skills: Experience with computers and knowledge of Company-standard software advantageous but not essential.
- Mathematical skills: Ability to understand and apply basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Travel: Occasional visits to suppliers and job sites may be required.
