Based: West Bromwich site

Job Function: Experienced Mechanical and Electrical Fitter for building, refurbishing and maintaining specialised equipment for the Water & Wastewater Industry.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build and wire specialised equipment from details contained in general arrangement drawings as supplied by the Design office.
  • Mechanically assemble and test all types of equipment in the Jacopa product range and including other manufacturers machinery, both in our workshop & suppliers’ premises where necessary.
  • Assist with training and advising new staff members of all aspects of assembly techniques and procedures within the workshop environment.
  • Using specialised knowledge of the Jacopa products consider solutions to any electrical and mechanical engineering problems which may arise.
  • Install new wiring and electrical devices for plant facility.
  • Enable improvements to quality, safety and speed of manufacture and assembly, working to quality standards as set by the Company manual and within recognised Health and Safety standards.
  • Liaise with other departments in all aspects of electrical work to assist with obtaining solutions to problems etc.
  • Ensure manufacture and assembly requirements are within the time constraints as detailed in the project budget.
  • Facilities electrical and maintenance fitting as and when required to include weekly testing of Fire Alarm system.
  • Portable appliance testing of workshop & site engineers power tools.
  • Sharing of Assembly skills for the building of Jacopa products which may be at the premises of Jacopa’s supply chain including pre-delivery inspections/testing of completed equipment, which may involve some travel.
  • Mentor & supervise electrical trainees & apprentices.
  • Carry out regular checks and record findings for Emergency Lighting & Legionnaires disease safety.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience of working within the Water Treatment Industry would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Must have relevant electrical qualification (18th Edition).
  • Must have previous track record of working in a mechanical/fitting/maintenance role, ideally within medium to heavy engineering – Manual handling training will be given as necessary.
  • Experience in cranage and a variety of lifting equipment is required (refresher training will be given).
  • Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck licence desirable but not essential (refresher training can be given).
  • Slinger/signaller experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience required in the use of power tools and machinery such as drills, pedestal grinders and punch tools.
  • Experience in maintenance fitting as this is often allocated to the fitter/assemblers role.
