Summary
Performs engineering work to support sales orders, product improvement projects, technical support, and/or engineering analysis. Completes assigned activities under general direction of the Engineering Manager.
Essential Generic Duties and Responsibilities
- Review all applicable job data, including POs, project plans and specifications to determine order characteristics and establish engineering objectives.
- Generate design, general arrangement and other submittal drawings within estimated hours and timescales.
- Provide design calculations and documentation support for project work.
- Prepare and update layouts, detailed drawings, calculations, specifications, and documentation instructions necessary for project success.
- Work closely with all functions of the business to ensure the most economical, safe and suitable design is achieved.
- Implement improvements to the current range of standard equipment and services and develop ideas for future solutions.
- Produce CAD drawings for equipment, civil work layouts and mechanical design details to specific requirements.
- Review detail drawings and bills of materials during and prior to issuance for manufacture.
- Apply and supervise the application of safety standards to products and services.
- Maintain, update and progress standard drawings and data for a particular product as the nominated Product Engineer.
- Provide technical support to Marketing by generating sales assistance drawings or calculations.
- Perform basic engineering analysis.
- Advise Project Management and Project Engineers of project status while adhering to all company and corporate policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Local Duties and Responsibilities
- Creating site layouts and equipment general assemblies using 3D Inventor.
- Reviewing and adhering to project specifications and applicable standards.
- Planning projects to meet submission requirements.
- Attending project meetings both internally and with clients.
- Input to and maintenance of the design risk register.
- Assess civilwork requirements to suit equipment.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations, including utilizing Mathcad.
- Detailed design for outsourced manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of equipment.
- Creating detailed parts lists/BOM with applicable software.
- Liaising with suppliers to obtain quotations for equipment and services.
- Providing input to and checking of Technical Manuals to ensure bespoke equipment details are captured.
- Applying Hazop, design risk matrix, risk assessments, and CDM risk matrix/assessment.
- Applying Machinery Directive, CE marking, ATEX requirements, and collating and filing all related data.
- Supporting site services with any build modifications and drawing updates.
- Performing detailed checking of all drawings, documentation and calculations.
- Working with own initiative and taking responsibility/ownership of workload.
Education, Training and Experience (Preferred)
HNC Level or above in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, plus previous related working experience in equipment/product design or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Communication Skills
Ability to read, analyse and interpret industry‑related documents; Ability to understand English at an advanced level via written and verbal communication.
Independent Judgment, Decision Making & Problem Solving
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a range of intellectual and practical problems; Ability to make decisions requiring the use of a variety of variables in standard situations.
Other Skills
- Computer Skills: Competency in Word, Excel and other MS Office programs; AutoCAD and 3D Inventor modelling software application.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical equations to a variety of standard situations.
- Travel: Some travel may be required.
- Additional: Ability to read and understand specifications, fabrication, erection and standard engineering drawings; Knowledge of machining, fabrication and assembly techniques; Knowledge of drafting standards for both structural and mechanical design.
