A leading international financial services and trading business is seeking a senior Legal and MiFID Compliance Director to join its London based leadership team. This is a newly created role with group wide remit, combining strategic legal advisory responsibilities with oversight of MiFID regulatory frameworks across a complex and evolving business.
The position will suit an experienced financial services lawyer or senior regulatory professional with strong MiFID expertise and a commercially focused mindset. The successful candidate will act as the central point of accountability for MiFID related matters, partnering closely with Compliance, Operations, Product, and front office stakeholders to ensure regulatory obligations are implemented in a practical, scalable, and commercially aligned manner.
The role will also lead a broad range of legal workstreams across structured finance, derivatives, institutional products, trading documentation, commercial agreements, and cross border initiatives. The successful individual will be expected to establish proportionate legal and regulatory frameworks that support business growth while maintaining robust governance standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implementation of a scalable MiFID framework
- Oversight of product governance and client categorisation requirements
- Ownership of MiFID related elements of the Compliance Monitoring Programme
- Guidance on first line controls and operational standards
- Senior stakeholder engagement across governance, risk appetite, and regulatory strategy discussions
Candidates should demonstrate strong exposure to MiFID and investment services regulation gained within regulated financial services environments. Experience across derivatives, structured products, trading businesses, lending, securitisation, or institutional markets will be highly advantageous.
