Our UK and Continental Europe team is growing and we’re looking for a Technology Expert in BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) to provide leadership and technical advice, building on our current portfolio of BESS work with Government Agencies, Developers, Contractors and Investors. Our team is based around the UK, at offices in England, Scotland and Wales; flexibility to travel between offices and client locations on occasion is desirable.

As a BESS Subject Matter Expert, you will lead and deliver a range of advisory services, driving innovation and excellence in energy storage solutions. Your role will be pivotal in shaping the future of sustainable energy projects and mentoring the next generation of engineers.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Build strong client relationships, leading progress meetings, presenting project updates and ensuring exceptional service delivery.
  • Support business development, working with the sales team to grow our BESS portfolio, identify new opportunities and prepare compelling proposals.
  • Develop and mentor a high‑performing team, supporting the growth of junior engineers and consultants and fostering a collaborative, learning‑focused environment.
  • Drive technical innovation, applying the latest tools, technologies and industry insights to enhance project outcomes and shape best practice.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, sharing expertise internally and externally to strengthen Jacobs’ position in the energy storage and renewables space.
  • Collaborate globally, working with international teams to share knowledge, align approaches and support cross‑regional project delivery.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or higher.
  • Extensive experience in BESS and its application, project development and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy generation technologies including solar PV and wind and their integration.
  • Knowledge of the UK & Continental Europe BESS market, key growth and global market insight.
  • Knowledge of grid interconnection controls and grid code compliance requirements.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage complex projects and diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on innovative solutions.
  • Capability to work under tight deadlines while achieving objectives with the ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately.
