Principal HV Cable System Design Engineer at Jacobs. Role involves leading design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV, from tendering to project handover. Jacobs is expanding the UK and Continental Europe teams in the Power & Energy portfolio, including high voltage AIS and GIS substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.

Responsibilities

  • Developing HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
  • Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
  • Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, and technical and progress reports.
  • Ensure correct and accurate interfaces with other engineering functions involved in the projects; attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath-induced voltage calculations and other related analyses.
  • Perform design reviews and verification of design.
  • Ensure all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Assist with temporary works design schemes.
  • Maintain good working relations with client/designer/team and our supply chain.
  • Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction; formally request any missing information in time to avoid programme delays.
  • Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP/Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.

Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
  • Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
  • Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
  • Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
  • Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
  • Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
  • Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems, for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
