About The Opportunity
The position involves designing high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) power cable systems. Initially, you will provide detailed design information to support cost estimates for proposed systems. Upon receipt of an order, you will carry out contract engineering. You will lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV, from the tendering stage through to project handover.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Developing HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
- Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
- Design of HVDC cables for offshore wind farms.
- Prepare plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
- Ensuring correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, attend, and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
- Support factory inspections Test (FAT).
- Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, Sheath induced voltage calculations and others.
- Perform design reviews, verification of design.
- Ensuring all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
- Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
- Assist with temporary works design schemes.
- Maintain good working relations with client/designer/Team, together with our supply chain.
- Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
- Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works.
- Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
- Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
- Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP/Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.

Here’s what you’ll need:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
- Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
- Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
- Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
- Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
- Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
- Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems, for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
