About The Opportunity
The UK water sector is entering its most transformative era in decades. With the Independent Water Commission (IWC) review and unprecedented investment, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to redefine how water and wastewater infrastructure serves communities for generations to come. As a Pipeline Engineer, you will shape the future of water by delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that protect resources and strengthen resilience. From feasibility and planning to advanced design, construction, and commissioning, you will play a critical role in projects that matter.
Working alongside industry leaders like United Utilities, Northumbrian Water, Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, and Anglian Water, you will help set new standards for excellence—impacting millions of lives and creating a legacy of sustainability. We’re looking for experienced Pipeline Engineers to join our teams across the UK and support major water utility investment programmes working on detailed design and Design & Build projects for water, wastewater, and bioresources infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Analysis
- Develop designs for water and wastewater pipelines, including pressurised and gravity systems.
- Perform hydraulic calculations and modelling to ensure optimal performance.
- Developing and optimising pipeline routing solutions, balancing technical feasibility, environmental constraints, and cost efficiency to deliver robust designs for major infrastructure projects.
- Project Delivery
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Support procurement and construction phases, ensuring compliance with design standards.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate pipeline solutions into broader project frameworks.
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders, presenting technical findings and recommendations.
- Compliance and Standards
- Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Innovation and Best Practice
- Stay current with industry developments, materials, and technologies to deliver efficient and sustainable solutions.
About You
- Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in pipeline design within the UK Water Industry.
- Familiarity with Civil 3D, ArcGIS or similar.
- Knowledge of relevant standards and codes (WRc, BS EN, etc.).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred
- Exposure to Design & Build projects and contractor collaboration.
- Understanding of surge/transient analysis and associated software.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards professional accreditation.
