As our UK and Continental Europe team continues to expand, we are seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to support a range of high‑profile projects across our Power & Energy portfolio, including high voltage AIS and GIS Substations, transmission system assets, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept and detailed design, design review, estimation, site supervision and support.
- Provide technical support on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
- Prepare plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
- Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions, attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients and subcontractors.
- Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath induced voltage calculations and others.
- Perform design reviews, verification of design.
- Ensure all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures.
- Assist with temporary works design schemes.
- Maintain good working relations with client, designer, team and our supply chain.
- Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works, formally request missing information in time to allow programme to proceed without delay.
- Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP / specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.
Requirements:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
- Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
- Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
- Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
- Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
- Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
- Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
