About the Role
To help support Amentum’s worldwide $14B F25 forward looking workload and our portfolio of complex and exciting geotechnical projects within the Defence, Nuclear Power, Environment and Government-Owned Critical Infrastructure industries, we are now looking to grow our Ground Engineering capabilities within the UK and are seeking to recruit Engineering Geologists and Geotechnical Engineers at a range of experience levels including:
- Engineering Geologist and Geotechnical Engineers
- Senior Engineering Geologist and Geotechnical Engineers (Chartered or approaching)
We are operating under flexible working arrangements, with a mixture of office-based and home working environments. Bristol office would be the preferred base-office, although other offices, such as Oxford, Reading, London or Glasgow can also be considered.
As a Ground Engineering Professional within Amentum, you will play a critical role in managing ground risk by delivering geotechnical assessment, analysis, design and construction supervision to a diverse range of existing and future projects across the UK and internationally. This work will involve:
- Preliminary Source, Feasibility, value engineering, innovation and sustainability studies.
- Land and overwater ground investigations including advanced in situ and laboratory testing and data management.
- Ground characterisation, parametrisation and modelling of soil and rock.
- Numerical and FE analyses of geotechnical problems, including seismic and dynamic analysis.
- Geotechnical analysis and design of innovative and sustainable structures, comprising:
- Routine and complex design within soil and rock, SSI and seismic SSSI
- Deep and shallow Foundations, Retaining walls, Basements and Cofferdams
- Earthworks, reinforced earth and geotextiles
- Ground Improvement including vibrational, mixing and grouting methodologies
- Ground anchors, soil nails, rock bolts etc
- Specification for construction purposes.
- Technical construction assurance.

Here’s What You’ll Need
We are interested in seeing your profile if you have experience or exposure to a SELECTION of the following:
- Knowledge of ground engineering with focus on engineering geology, soil mechanics and rock mechanics.
- Relevant experience of Standards and Codes of Practice.
- Geotechnical desk studies, field mapping and geomorphological assessment;
- Ground investigation including design, specification, supervision, assessment and data management;
- 2D/3D Ground Modelling and Characterisation;
- Routine geotechnical analysis, design and technical reporting involving some of the following:
- Foundations, retaining structures, and reinforced earth;
- Landslip, excavations; earthworks; and ground treatment;
- Soil/Rock reinforcement and ground anchors;
- Land quality.
Technical software such as: OpenGround, Leapfrog, GEO5 Suite; RocScience Suite; WellCad; AutoCad; ArcGIS; MathCAD etc, would be beneficial;
Degree (BSc, BEng, Meng, MSc) Engineering Geology / Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent.
