Are you ready to design and deliver innovative software solutions that solve real‑world challenges? At Jacobs, we’re seeking experienced Java Software Engineers to join our Digital & Data team. This is your opportunity to work on impactful projects across diverse sectors, including water, transportation, defence, and government, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to create scalable, high‑performance back‑end services.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, implement, and deliver scalable back‑end services and APIs using modern Java best practices.
  • Optimise application performance through multi‑threading and concurrency techniques.
  • Collaborate with agile teams, including product owners, architects, and QA engineers, to deliver high‑quality software.
  • Utilise cloud platforms like Azure and integrate data storage solutions for scalable service delivery.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and agile ceremonies.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Minimum two years of Java development experience with a strong understanding of Java 8+ features and object‑oriented design principles.
  • Expertise in multi‑threading, concurrency, and performance optimisation.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure and automated testing frameworks like JUnit.
  • Proven ability to deliver robust, scalable software solutions within agile teams.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a growth mindset, with enthusiasm for learning and knowledge sharing.

Other key information

This role is subject to UK Security Vetting at SC (security check) level. Applicants must be eligible and willing to undergo the appropriate security clearance process, if not already cleared. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of the relevant clearance process. This is a full‑time, permanent, remote or hybrid (2–3 days/week) role with occasional business travel. Full‑time employment at Jacobs is based on a 40‑hour working week.
