We are looking to recruit a Senior/Principal Power System Engineer to our ‘Future Energy & Power Systems’ team who will effectively support our business by helping to grow activities across all areas of the power sector from generation (thermal, renewables & storage), transmission, distribution and industrial systems. The role will include modelling and performing various power system studies for our major clients worldwide. Our team is based across the UK, with offices in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Reading, Cardiff, and Bristol; flexibility to travel between offices and client locations on occasion is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Power system modelling and model verification
- Feasibility studies, including load flow and fault level assessments
- Determining equipment performance specifications
- Grid Code compliance studies
- Interconnection/impact studies
- Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies including Insulation Coordination, Transient Recovery Voltage, Transient overvoltage and lightning studies
- Producing coherent and concise technical reports
- Contributing technical material and level‑of‑effort estimates to proposals
- Leading and delivering study activities such as technical support to proposals, modelling and performing simulations, results analysis and reporting
- Leading and contributing to client meetings & presentations, technical discussions, etc.
- Working closely with team members in the UK and across the globe for studies in transmission, distribution, renewables and industrial systems
- Projects integrating low‑carbon technologies into the network
- Developing innovation projects and securing funding through mechanisms such as the Network Innovation Allowance and Strategic Innovation Fund
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or higher, Master’s or PhD in a relevant field
- Membership of a recognised professional institution/organisation preferably at a Chartered level
- Proficiency in power system modelling and analysis using DIgSILENT, PSS/E, ETAP and PSCAD software
- Previous work experience in power systems, utility and renewable projects
