Join to apply for the Associate Director – Substation Design Engineer – UK Grid Network role at Jacobs.
In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of complex and high‑value energy infrastructure projects across the UK and Continental Europe. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to design and specify high‑voltage substation plant and systems, supporting projects that span transmission assets, HVDC interconnectors, energy storage solutions, and facilities for mission‑critical sectors. You will develop designs up to 400 kV, from concept and FEED through to detailed design for construction, ensuring technical excellence, client specification compliance, and adherence to health, safety, and quality standards. You will collaborate with major clients and interface with other engineering disciplines to contribute to a resilient and sustainable energy network.
Responsibilities
- Design and specification of HV substations and associated plant and systems up to 400 kV.
- Develop designs from concept and FEED through to detailed design for construction.
- Prepare design calculations, reports, and detailed drawings. CAD experience (AutoCAD or MicroStation) is preferred but not essential.
- Ensure technical excellence and compliance with client specifications, as well as health, safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with clients (e.g., National Grid, SSEN) and interface with other engineering disciplines within multidisciplinary project teams.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
- Experience in electrical discipline work and delivering complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Relevant professional experience in HV and LV substations (up to 400 kV); experience in preparing design calculations, reports, and detailed drawings.
- CAD experience (AutoCAD or MicroStation) is preferred but not essential.
