As a Civil Engineering apprentice in our Highways team, you will work on some of the world's most exciting Civil Engineering projects, providing opportunities to solve complex challenges and do meaningful work that benefits our communities and the world.

Responsibilities

  • Report writing with the support of senior team members
  • Site visits and follow‑up reporting
  • Technical drawing
  • Attending meetings with clients
  • Supporting your team with information gathering for reports
  • Undertaking research to support report writing
  • Working with team members to improve your technical knowledge
  • Apply civil engineering techniques, procedures and methods, review and evaluate results
  • Employ mathematical, statistical and data‑interpretation tools
  • Identify, interpret and compare information to select materials, components or parts used in civil engineering
  • Research, collect, select and evaluate technical literature and other sources of data and information
  • Produce civil engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards
  • Select and apply computational and analytical techniques to model civil engineering problems
  • Contribute to the design, development and implementation of civil engineering solutions
  • Manage and comply with statutory health, safety and welfare policies
  • Complete risk assessments to identify, evaluate, manage and mitigate risks
  • Apply principles of sustainable development and evaluate their effectiveness
  • Manage engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development
  • Apply project management techniques
  • Manage quality processes and contribute to quality improvements
  • Plan and manage resources, equipment and technology to meet project requirements
  • Monitor and manage individual performance and the input of others
  • Comply with appropriate codes of practice and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) requirements
  • Communicate in verbal and written contexts using appropriate methods
  • Apply teamwork and collaboration principles
  • Apply ethical principles, identifying and analysing ethical concerns
  • Plan, undertake and review your own professional competence

Training

Level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship at The University of Salford with a day release training schedule.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A Level in Mathematics (grade B) and any other relevant qualifications and industry experience

Salary & Benefits

£21,000 a year, plus benefits including company‑funded private medical insurance, pension plan, life assurance, income protection, reimbursement toward professional development and memberships.
