Responsibilities

  • Assisting with civil engineering design and detailing for Energy & Power projects
  • Supporting the preparation, review and updating of engineering drawings, schedules and technical documentation
  • Collecting and interpreting site investigation and record information to support design development
  • Supporting coordination with multidiscipline engineers, contractors and clients
  • Supporting progress reporting, programme updates and cost monitoring for civil engineering design works
  • Applying health, safety, environmental and quality procedures
  • Using engineering and digital tools such as CAD software, design programmes and spreadsheets to support project delivery
  • Assisting with quality control activities and As-Built documentation
  • Applying civil engineering techniques, procedures and methods, and reviewing and evaluating the results, including measuring and testing, designing, installing, commissioning, constructing, maintaining or operating civil engineering components and systems
  • Considering how continuous improvement can contribute to improved performance
  • Employing mathematical, statistical and data interpretation tools, using analytical and computational methods, and applying an integrated or systems-based approach
  • Identifying, interpreting and comparing information to select materials, components or parts used in civil engineering
  • Researching, collecting, selecting and evaluating technical literature and other sources of data and information to address, analyse and evaluate civil engineering problems
  • Producing civil engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards, policies, codes of practice, regulations, and legislation
  • Selecting and applying computational and analytical techniques to model civil engineering problems, recognising the limitations of the techniques employed
  • Contributing to the design, development and implementation of civil engineering solutions, and evaluating their effectiveness in the context of the whole project life cycle
  • Managing and complying with statutory health, safety and welfare policies, procedures and regulation, and contributing to improvements in health, safety and welfare, within their own area of responsibility
  • Completing risk assessments to identify, evaluate, manage and mitigate risks
  • Applying principles of sustainable development and evaluating their effectiveness on the whole project lifecycle of civil engineering solutions
  • Managing engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)
  • Applying project management techniques, identifying, measuring, recording and reporting progress against civil engineering project performance criteria
  • Managing quality processes and contributing to quality improvements
  • Planning and managing resources, equipment and technology, to meet project requirements, specifications, costs and budgets and timescales, with an appreciation of statutory and commercial arrangements
  • Monitoring and managing individual performance, and the input of others, recognising the need to adapt to, and communicate, changing demands
  • Complying with appropriate codes of practice and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) requirements
  • Communicating in verbal and written contexts using appropriate methods for the audience
  • Using appropriate engineering terminology and conventions
  • Applying teamwork and collaboration principles
  • Applying ethical principles, identifying and analysing ethical concerns and making reasoned ethical choices
  • Planning, undertaking and reviewing their own professional competence, regularly updating, recording and reviewing their continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Applying engineering principles to solve engineering problems: scientific, theoretical and technical principles

Salary and Benefits

£21,000 a year. Along with a competitive salary, your benefits will include company‑funded private medical insurance, pension plan, life assurance, income protection, reimbursement towards professional development and memberships.

Working Hours and Schedule

Training course Civil engineer (level 6). Hours Monday to Friday (no weekends). Core working hours are between 8.00 am – 6.00 pm, but will be discussed/confirmed. 40 hours a week. Start date Tuesday 1 September 2026. Duration 5 years.
