At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.
Your impact
Help shape safer, smarter and more resilient environments across the UK
Are you a Fire Engineer looking to work on some of the UK's most complex and impactful projects?
At Jacobs, our Fire Engineering team helps clients deliver safer, smarter and more resilient infrastructure and buildings. As we continue to grow our Manchester team, we're looking for Senior Fire Engineers to play a key role in delivering innovative fire engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects.
This is an opportunity to work on projects that genuinely make a difference. From major transportation hubs and energy assets to large-scale residential developments, critical infrastructure and complex public buildings, you'll help shape projects that have a lasting impact on communities and the built environment.
As a Senior Fire Engineer, you'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients and stakeholders to develop practical, performance-based fire safety solutions from concept through to construction and delivery. You'll be involved in developing fire strategies, undertaking technical analysis, preparing reports and helping solve complex challenges where safety, design, functionality and commercial objectives must all come together.
No two projects are the same. One day you could be supporting the development of a major transport facility, the next helping to deliver fire engineering solutions for critical infrastructure, public sector buildings or large-scale residential schemes. You'll have the opportunity to influence design decisions early, work alongside industry-leading specialists and see your work make a meaningful impact on project outcomes.
Our Fire Engineering team supports major clients across the UK and internationally, including organisations such as National Grid, airport operators, rail and transportation providers, housing associations, local authorities and critical infrastructure clients. It's a chance to gain exposure to a wide variety of sectors and projects while working as part of a highly collaborative and respected team.
Alongside project delivery, you'll have opportunities to build client relationships, support business growth, mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continued expansion of our fire engineering capability across the region.
What you'll bring
We're looking for someone with experience in Fire Engineering who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and working collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Whether you're already operating at Senior level or ready to take the next step in your career, this role offers the opportunity to develop your expertise while contributing to nationally significant projects.
What makes this role exciting?
Work on some of the UK's most challenging and high-profile projects.
Influence designs from concept through to construction and delivery.
Collaborate with experts across transportation, energy, buildings and critical infrastructure.
Develop innovative, performance-based fire engineering solutions.
Build trusted relationships with major clients across the UK and internationally.
Support and mentor developing engineers while growing your own career.
Join a team that's expanding and helping shape the future of fire engineering within Jacobs.
Flexible Working
Based in our Manchester office, this role offers a flexible hybrid working pattern, typically with two days in the office and three days working from home, giving you the opportunity to collaborate closely with your team while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
If you're looking for a role where you can tackle complex challenges, work on projects that matter and play a part in shaping safer and more resilient communities, we'd love to hear from you.
Here's what you'll need
- Experience delivering fire engineering design solutions on large infrastructure or complex building projects.
- A degree in Fire Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience preparing fire strategies, technical reports and fire engineering assessments.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK fire safety standards, regulations and guidance.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.
- Chartered Engineer status or are actively working towards chartership, ideally through the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE).
In return, you'll join a business where transport planning is central to some of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure and mobility programmes.
Alongside meaningful and varied work, we offer:
Up to 10% pension contribution
24 days annual leave plus the option to buy up to 10 additional days
Private medical insurance
Income protection

Access to specialist expertise across the UK and globally
