We have an exciting opportunity for an ecologist with a special interest in ornithology to join our award‑winning ecology team across the UK. Positions are available on a permanent full‑time as well as part‑time, job share or flexible basis.
Role
- Deliver challenging, diverse, and innovative projects across transport, water and energy sectors for clients including government agencies, local authorities, utilities and energy companies.
- Work within multidisciplinary teams, building rapport and trust so that ornithological requirements are recognised and constraints acted upon.
- Lead ornithological surveys, provide expert advice to internal and external clients and, when workload permits, support other ecological surveys and project tasks.
- Apply knowledge of national legislation to support Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitats Regulations Appraisals.
- Combine desk and site‑based work, travelling across the UK and staying away from home during the working week as required.
Qualifications
- Background in terrestrial ecology with relevant industry experience, including technical reporting and impact assessment mindful of national legislation and guidance.
- Good bird identification skills and understanding of bird ecology, including generic and species‑specific survey techniques.
- Experience scoping and executing field surveys and analysing data.
- Associate membership of a professional body (or the experience to obtain membership); full membership or chartership is also welcomed.
- Inquisitive, willing to learn and highly responsible.
- Strong written communication skills, able to produce clear and concise reports.
Preferred
- Current and full driving licence.
- Additional ecological specialism beyond ornithology.
