Jacksons is part of William Jackson Food Group, a sixth‑generation family business founded in Hull in 1851. The Group now runs five food businesses, employing over 2,000 people. We operate three bread plants at our Hull site, including a new premium roll bakery, and supply sandwich manufacturers, foodservice, and export markets. In 2012 we launched the consumer brand “Jackson’s of Yorkshire”. 2025 is an exciting year to join us – make this year a toast to you!

The start date for the apprenticeship will be January 2026. All applicants must be aged 18 or over and proof of age may be required. The apprenticeship will be based at our Hull site (Derringham Street) – 37.5 hours per week – with travel to other Jacksons locations as required.

What’s involved?

You will be responsible for technical innovation and process workstreams directed by the Technical Process Manager, including product trials, raw‑material trials, data collection and reporting, optimisation analysis, and customer/supplier interactions. The role requires low‑level customer and supplier contact, regular travel, and close collaboration with Technical, NPD, Operations and Supply Chain teams.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Flexibility is essential: you may work day or night across all three manufacturing sites, including overnight stays.
  • The role is factory‑floor based with some admin work and customer/supplier travel.
  • A high level of commitment, perseverance and time‑management is required.
  • Attend customer panels and record feedback.
  • Communicate findings to the Technical Innovations Manager.
  • Conduct plant trials and continuously improve the bread‑making process through data and observation.
  • Review quality indicators and liaise with Technical and Operational teams.
  • Support the R2L process.
  • Assist the NPD team with factory trials and launches.
  • Support trial approvals for alternative suppliers/ingredients.
  • Work within the departmental annual budget and perform other duties as required.
