Jackson Hogg is delighted to be supporting with the appointment of a highly skilled and dynamic Structural Engineer to join our client based in the Washington area in the Northeast of England. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and growing company within the UK construction industry, to play a pivotal role in structural design and analysis, compliance, work flow coordination and ensure seamless integration between design, engineering and manufacturing processes.
The successful candidate will lead structural validation, drive innovation in steel support and reinforcement solutions within the construction industry, and have the ability to work collaboratively with designers and technicians to optimise structural integrity and effective project execution. You will play a key role in providing technical expertise, managing and mentoring technical staff, and leading compliance strategies across the department.
Main responsibilities:
Develop structural designs, calculations, and analyses for structural elements within the construction industry.
Ensure compliance with Eurocodes, British Standards and building regulations
Use finite element analysis (FEA) and structural software such as Tekla to optimise designs.
Evaluate loading conditions, check deflection limits and improve connection details.
Act as the compliance authority within the Engineering Team, ensuring all designs align with regulatory requirements.
Drive process improvements by refining design standards, calculation templates, and technical workflows.
Manage multiple projects concurrently, overseeing engineering deliverables from concept to execution.
Liaise with architects, contractors, and clients to ensure engineering solutions
Participate in design reviews, site meetings, and technical discussions
Assign engineering tasks to Technicians and mentor junior engineers and technical staff, developing their skills in structural validation and compliance.
Prepare detailed calculation reports and engineering specifications for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent).
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards chartered status with IStructE or ICE (or other).
Strong UK experience within a structural engineering position, understanding Eurocodes, British Standards, and modern construction methodologies
High level of technical accuracy and attention to detail in structural analysis and documentation
Leadership mindset, capable of mentoring technicians and guiding engineering workflows
Effective communication skills.
