We are currently working with a global leader in Chemical Manufacturing looking for a Scientist to join their team specifically focused on their Paper and Plastics line. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and carrying out technical work programmes to support customer technical service, the development of new products and applications, and innovative technical platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • To plan, carry out and report in-applications tests on existing and novel pigments for customer support and product development projects, including formulation troubleshooting and benchmarking.
  • To synthesise and evaluate new pigments at the laboratory-scale in support of product development and product improvement programmes, and the development of innovative technical platforms.
  • To interpret and report the results of applications testing and pigment evaluations to meet the information needs of customers to mutually agreed timescales.
  • To contribute information, know-how and ideas to best achieve the objectives of customer support and research and development projects.
  • To improve and develop applications testing and synthesis methods to meet changing business needs.
  • To ensure equipment and systems used are maintained in a fit-for-purpose state to deliver optimised high-quality results in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To improve personal skills, capability and knowledge in order to maximise contribution to meeting the needs of the business.
  • To carry out all duties at all times to be in compliance with all EHS, Product Stewardship, SOX and Business Conduct policies and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a National Level 5 qualification, e.g. HND, or equivalent in chemistry, physics, materials science or other related science subject.

Required Skills:

  • Experience of carrying out technical service or research and development programmes.
  • Experience of working within a chemical industry environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience of using plastics technology and testing (e.g. extrusion, injection moulding).
  • Knowledge of pigment science and technology.
  • Experience of writing and developing EHS and technical documentation.
