We are seeking an experienced and detail-focused Senior Finance Assistant to support the day-to-day running of a busy finance function. This is a key role responsible for end-to-end payroll processing, financial administration and supporting accurate financial reporting. This opportunity is ideal for a proactive finance professional with strong payroll expertise and solid general accounts office experience who thrives in a hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and process end-to-end payroll, including starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, statutory payments and deductions.
- Administer PAYE, pensions and ensure compliance with HMRC and National Minimum Wage legislation.
- Prepare payroll reports and post payroll journals to the finance system.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.
- Support the preparation of management accounts and financial reports.
- Manage the debtors ledger and assist with credit control.
- Process purchase invoices, staff expenses, BACS and ad hoc payments.
- Maintain petty cash and post cash receipts.
- Complete month-end procedures including journals and key reconciliations.
- Maintain general ledger records and assist with bank reconciliations.
- Assist with year-end processes and audit requirements.
- Respond to finance and payroll queries and support ongoing improvements to financial systems and processes.
About You
- AAT Level 3/4 (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a finance role.
- Significant in-house payroll processing experience.
- Confident preparing accounts to trial balance stage.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and finance systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle confidential information professionally.
