This role is based in the Teesside - Stockton - Middlesbrough area. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Process Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting the delivery of process engineering projects across a range of industrial sectors. This role offers involvement throughout the full project lifecycle, from early concept development and FEED studies through to EPC delivery, commissioning support, and ongoing technical guidance. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with the ability to support project delivery, mentor engineers, and contribute to business growth activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Engineering Delivery
    • Deliver process engineering activities across the project lifecycle including Pre FEED, FEED, and EPC phases.
    • Provide technical expertise for design, specification, procurement support, installation, and commissioning activities.
    • Produce, review, and approve discipline documentation.
    • Provide ongoing technical support to projects and wider engineering teams.
  • Technical Leadership
    • Perform Lead Engineer responsibilities where required.
    • Make decisions relating to technical challenges, project schedules, budgets, and safety requirements. Support resolution of technical queries and management of engineering change.
    • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and engineering assessments.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
    • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and other engineering review activities. Support discipline audits and design assurance processes.
  • Mentoring & Development
    • Mentor graduate and junior engineers.
    • Support competence development and progression towards professional registration.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering function.

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree qualified in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering engineering projects across Pre FEED, FEED, and EPC phases.
  • Background within chemicals, petrochemicals, oil & gas, power generation, or related process industries.
  • Strong understanding of pump systems, separation equipment, and relief systems.
  • Experience participating in HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA studies.
  • Ability to review P&IDs, layouts, 3D models, and engineering documentation.
  • Understanding of project controls, schedules, budgets, and scope management.
