Jackson Hogg are pleased to be working exclusively with an exciting process engineering organisation in the search for a Shift Lab Technician.
Role Description
Carry out laboratory analysis to a defined analytical schedule with an active part in the running of the plant with sampling duties. Working with the production shift team to carry out the short-term & instantaneous operational tasks needed to achieve the production plan for the plant, always adhering to strict safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Competent control & operation of the laboratory equipment and wet chemistry, requiring adherence to company procedures and job methods.
- Working within the production team, ensuring the provision of an analytical service infrastructure that ensures the effective and efficient execution of all sampling and testing requirements and the translation of these results into good operational decisions, minimising production losses.
- Contributing with training and validation of the production team.
- Ensure that analytical systems and processes are being used effectively, initiate improvements, validate measurements, and check results versus target.
- Responsibility for the calibration and accurate operation of analytical equipment.
- Ensure analytical equipment and processes are operational to meet the needs of the business.
- Manage laboratory consumables, reagent preparation, standardisation and routine Statistical Quality Control.
- Proactively monitor plant data to ensure process consistency.
- Assist Quality & Improvement Manager in efficient execution of laboratory & plant trials.
- Continually monitor analytical standards and actively work to eliminate violations.
- Drive commitment to meet health, safety and environmental compliance at all times including laboratory housekeeping.
- Manage the laboratory data input systems ensuring all analysis results are entered correctly in a timely manner.
- Raise any process or team issues to the Lead Technician or Team Leader when necessary.
- Support the Team Leader in achieving production KPIs and completing daily operational activities.
- Liaise closely with control room operators to communicate plant conditions and coordinate operational changes.
- Perform maintenance and basic equipment troubleshooting.
- Contribute to the development of new operational areas and support business growth initiatives.
- Complete and thorough communication between shifts, including effective communication via the laboratory log and the production log system to ensure a smooth transition and common goals across the production shift teams.
Experience:
- BTEC/A levels or Equivalent in technical subjects.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working within a production laboratory environment.
- Have attained the basic competencies in a range of analytical techniques.
- Positive track record of providing training and mentorship.
- Strong team player skills.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of driving improvements.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- A thorough and methodical approach to your work.
- Experience on a COMAH site is desirable but not essential.
- Able to work a 12hr shift pattern.
Salary – Up to £45,000 inclusive of shift allowance
