Role Overview

To safely receive, allocate, and prepare raw material bars for manufacturing by cutting into billets and ensuring correct allocation to work orders. The role requires accurate use of maths, measuring techniques, and computer systems to calculate material requirements and maintain traceability. In addition, the role provides support to goods receiving and stores operations when required.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Supporting material receipt, allocation, and preparation for manufacturing
  • Providing secondary support to Goods Receiving and Stores during peak workloads or absences
  • Receive raw material deliveries, ensuring safe unloading, storage, and accurate allocation to work orders using computer systems and dedicated software
  • Operate forklift trucks and pedestrian trucks safely, including carrying out routine vehicle checks
  • Operate band saws to cut material bars into billets, including blade changing when required
  • Maintain material identification and traceability using stamping, painting, etching, or other approved methods
  • Use calculators and measuring equipment (e.g., rules, tape measures) to calculate and verify material requirements in both imperial and metric units
  • Store materials safely on pallets/racks in line with company procedures
  • Assist with metal waste segregation and disposal, using Positive Material Identification (PMI) equipment (training provided)
  • Support stock takes and reconcile physical counts with inventory records
  • Keep work areas safe, clean, and organised
  • Maintain and promote high standards of Health & Safety across all activities
  • Provide cover for goods receiving and stores activities during staff absences or increased workloads

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience in a stores or manufacturing environment (desirable)
  • Valid forklift truck licence (desirable)
  • Experience operating band saws or similar cutting equipment (desirable)
  • Well organised with strong attention to detail
  • Competent in manual handling with good knowledge of safe lifting techniques (training can be provided)
  • Basic numeracy skills, including the ability to work in both imperial and metric units
  • Computer literate with experience using stock allocation systems or similar software
  • Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measures and rules
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal teams and suppliers

Working Hours

37.5 hours on a double day shift (shift allowance included)

Earlies: Monday to Thursday 06:00–14:00; Friday 06:00–11:00

Lates: Monday to Thursday 14:00–22:00; Friday 11:30–17:00
