Our client is a leader in the design and manufacturing of bespoke valves for a variety of industries and they are looking for a Design Engineer to join their team!

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Interpret customer requirements and specifications, translating them into engineered product designs that meet both technical and commercial requirements
  • Plan and prioritise engineering tasks to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the required standard
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD designs for new products and product modifications
  • Produce accurate 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing
  • Solve complex mechanical engineering problems using a clear, logical and methodical approach
  • Perform and document engineering calculations, ensuring results can be validated by colleagues and third parties
  • Carry out Finite Element Analysis (FEA) where required to assess and validate new designs and design modifications
  • Analyse and document test data to verify compliance with customer and industry specifications
  • Prepare professional engineering documentation and technical reports for internal teams and customers, presenting findings where required
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and customer specifications, including API, ISO, PED and ASME VIII
  • Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout the design process
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance existing products and engineering processes
  • Review and approve engineering drawings and Bills of Materials to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Support the successful transition of new products into production
  • Contribute to Engineering strategy, policies and procedures to support the continued growth and development of the business
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other Engineers within the department
  • Represent the Engineering department at internal and customer meetings, providing technical support and engineering expertise where required
  • Deputise for the Principal Engineer when required
  • Undertake additional engineering duties as required by the Product Design Manager
  • Travel to customer sites and other business locations as required

Ideal Candidate

  • A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experienced user of 3D CAD for design and drafting
  • Strong conceptual and detailed design skills
  • Experience of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Experience designing high-pressure equipment to recognised industry standards
  • Ability to produce detailed engineering calculations and technical reports
  • Experienced in the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • A strong understanding of engineering materials, particularly metals and their applications
  • Familiarity with Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proactive with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using MRP systems (such as Visual or Syteline) to produce Bills of Materials
  • Experience using Quality Management System databases
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of quality, safety and compliance
  • Knowledge of technical software such as Math CAD and Lab View
  • Positive attitude with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to demanding project deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

  • Monday to Thursday: 08:00am to 16:30pm
