ABOUT XYZ REALITY

XYZ Reality are the creators of the world's first and only engineering-grade Augmented Reality solution, purpose built for the construction industry. Not only have we created this holographic technology, that sits within The Atom — a smart, site-safe headset/hardhat — but we implement it on projects, utilising the power of AR to ensure that all schemes are completed in line with delivery timescales and budgets.

XYZ has grown to over 100 staff across the UK, US & Europe and is working with Mission Critical organisations & construction companies to successfully deliver major projects.

THE ROLE

This role sits within the Production team at our NPI facility in Reading, Berkshire, reporting to the Production & Quality Director.

As Senior Production Engineer, you will be the senior engineering lead for production at the facility — combining hands-on technical depth in robotics and electrical engineering with day-to-day leadership of the assembly, test and calibration team.

You'll own how XYZ's AR devices are built, tested and calibrated, and how that process scales — accountable both for delivery against the build plan and for the manufacturing engineering that makes the plan achievable. This includes leading the move from a prototype build process to one designed for volume.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the assembly, test and calibration team day to day — allocating work against the build plan, developing team capability through skills matrix and cross-training, and mentoring assembly and test engineers.
  • Own the robot calibration and configuration processes that set the accuracy of XYZ AR devices; own production test systems including test rigs, acceptance criteria, measurement capability and calibration control.
  • Establish a measured build-and-test cycle time per unit; own manufacturing process design and improvement — cycle time, first-time-right yield, rework reduction and labour efficiency.
  • Lead the move from prototype build to volume production — NPI, first-article builds, process validation, jigs and fixtures, and identifying and implementing automation opportunities.
  • Lead root-cause analysis on returns and field failures and drive corrective actions to closure under ISO 9001 clause 10.2; set in-process quality gates and inspection criteria.
  • Own build documentation — create and control assembly, test and calibration work instructions under the QMS; support engineering change implementation on the production side.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or equivalent in electrical, electronic, mechatronic or manufacturing engineering.
  • Substantial hands-on electrical and electronic engineering experience on complex products — schematics, harnesses, PCB-level fault-finding, measurement and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrable robotics experience: programming, calibration, configuration and integration into a production or test process.
  • Experience leading a small technical team with evidence of developing people, not just directing them.

KEY EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Track record of scaling a low-volume, high-complexity build — process design, yield improvement and automation.
  • Experience taking a product from prototype into repeatable production.
  • Comfortable with command-line tools, firmware installation and test scripting.
  • Experience working to ISO 9001, including NCR and corrective action processes.
  • Confident user of ERP and inventory management systems.
  • A hands-on leader who sets the standard personally and holds the team to it.

BENEFITS

  • 25 days annual leave + public holidays
  • Private healthcare with Vitality
  • Christmas shutdown days on top of leave allowance (2–4 per year usually)
  • Biannual salary reviews
  • Summer & Christmas staff parties
  • Employee referral scheme
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Make a real-world impact of revolutionising the construction industry
